Marty Brueggemann is a musician & songwriter from St. Paul, Minnesota. Raised on the music of Lennon/McCartney, Rodgers/Hammerstein, and Koji Kondo (Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda), he’s had a love for melody and its power to connect large and diverse groups of people. Performing music has occupied his life for as long as he can remember, having studied piano since the age of 5, saxophone from the age of 9, and guitar since he was a teenager. Although fascinated with Jazz improvisation and performance, his focus from an early age has been primarily on melody and composition. He is a walking encyclopedia on pop music writers and has a reputation for praising these unsung heroes to whomever he finds whistling their tunes or singing their lyrics. He wishes he’d lived to see the days when pop music connected with a broad generation, but sees glimmers of hope in the music of today’s niche markets. There is no style of song Marty doesn’t dream of working in, and believes that (whether aware or not) people are attracted to substance of melody and lyric more than any one style or sound. Marty is a founding member of rock/pop band Underdub (myspace.com/underdubband) as guitarist and vocalist and as a solo artist is hard at work at his first full-length album. His 6-song debut EP was produced by Justin Vernon, the mastermind of Bon Iver.
